Grease a 20cm x 20cm tin. Combine fruit, butter, sugar, water, mixed spice and nutmeg in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Boil softly for three minutes. Tip into a bowl. Allow to cool. Combine the flours and soda. Stir in combined dry ingredients, eggs and sherry. Bake in a moderat eoven for ¾-1 hour.
